From ILAC to Global ACI: What the 2026 Change Means for Your Calibration Certificates

Standards and Accreditation

Since 1 January 2026, the two bodies that ran international accreditation recognition, ILAC (laboratories and inspection) and IAF (certification), have operated as a single organisation: Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated, known as Global ACI.

What changed

  • The ILAC MRA and the IAF MLA have been replaced by a single Global ACI MRA.
  • Recognition of existing accredited results continues without interruption. Calibration certificates issued by laboratories accredited by signatory accreditation bodies remain internationally recognised.
  • The ILAC MRA mark may continue to be used for a limited time, until the Global ACI MRA mark is introduced in each economy. Current guidance anticipates the transition ending around 1 January 2029.

What it means for you

  • Existing certificates: no action is needed. They remain valid and recognised.
  • New certificates: during the transition, you may see either the ILAC MRA mark or the new Global ACI MRA mark alongside the accreditation body’s symbol. Both are valid.
  • Supplier approval procedures: if your procedures say “accredited by an ILAC MRA signatory”, update the wording to “a signatory to the Global ACI MRA (formerly ILAC MRA)” to avoid confusion during audits.

Where TEQ stands

TEQ is accredited by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. EGAC’s international recognition continues under the Global ACI MRA, so TEQ’s accredited certificates remain recognised internationally. TEQ will move to the new mark in line with EGAC’s guidance.
